In zijn boek ´City of Bits` schrijft William Mitchell : "Sharing a virtual place is not quite the same thing, of course, as sharing a physical place like a room, a bed, or an umbrella in the rain. (..) The crucial thing is simultaneous electronic access to the same information." (pag. 22) Verderop: " Increasingly, homes will be places with network adresses as well as street adresses. (..) As network and information appliances deliver expanding ranges of services, there will be fewer occasions to go out" (pag. 100)
In aanmerking nemende dat deze tekst dateert van 1999 loont het de moeite eens te overdenken wat er van deze visie terecht gekomen is; tot dusver constateer ik dat ik wel degelijk "out" ga, met een voldoende "range of services" binnen knopbereik.
